The artof
In the heavenly and unique setting of the Church of Saint Francis of the Women in Perugia, the ancient techniques of weaving are faithfully preserved and the timeless textiles that are created carry with them the history of art and of the region of Umbria.
The Giuditta Brozzetti Museum Workshop is one of the last surviving hand weaving workshops in Italy where it is possible to marvel at original working looms from the 18th and 19th centuries and to discover their rich history.
History
A story not only of techniques, but also of the decorative motifs already present in the paintings of Giotto, of Ghirlandaio, up to Leonardo da Vinci.
An ancient story that has come down to today thanks to the work of women and the figure of Giuditta Brozzetti, who at the beginning of the twentieth century founded the laboratory / school with the aim of giving new life to the glorious Umbrian textile tradition.
Umbrian
is woman
Today, this female tradition is continued by Marta Cucchia, the fourth generation of the family. In 1996 Marta approached weaving and reopened her business in one of the oldest Franciscan churches in Perugia: San Francesco delle Donne.
